I am currently a Professor in the Operations Management Group of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. I received my PhD in Operations Research and Systems Analysis from IIM Calcutta, after having received my Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras.

With than two decades of industry experience and nearly a decade of teaching and research experience, I have also served in the Central Electricity Authority and Indian Railways in senior management positions of various bodies, including being the Director of Research Design and Standards Organisation of the Ministry of Railways.

I have been involved in the procurement of works, goods and services as well as having been the sole/joint arbitrator during my tenure in South Eastern Railway. I have been engaged in preparation of specifications and vendor approval during my tenure in Research Design and Standards Organisation. I have conducted research and training of public sector executives in public procurement at IIM Calcutta. My publications include two books titled “Optimal Design of Timetables for Large Railways” and “Business Applications of Operations Research” and I have co-authored the Special Indian Edition of Hillier & Lieberman’s classic textbook “Introduction to Operations Research”, besides publishing in national and international journals and conference proceedings.

I am an elected Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and a Senior Member of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. My experience also includes a stint as visiting faculty at the University of Michigan and BNSF Railway on Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellowship. One of my biggest motivating factors has been to update my skills to be a better researcher and trainer on public procurement. I am interested in research in public procurement processes which can enable the best value for money as well as eradicate the menace of corruption.

The Certificate Program for Public Procurement is a self paced learning program. The course is quite exhaustive covering all aspects of public procurement. It is designed wonderfully with numerous tests for each sub-module to test your understanding as you proceed. The online course allows the learner to go back and forth according to his/her needs. I have learn a lot from this course. I must thank the World Bank for this wonderful opportunity for professionals to upgrade their skills on public procurement.
